When Taiju Yamashita and his team at DRAFT Inc. were tasked with designing the office for DIP Corporation, they turned to the company's name for inspiration. DIP stands for Dream, Idea, and Passion, and these keywords became the guiding principles for the design. The goal was to create a space that would foster communication, cultivate awareness of the company's philosophy, and inspire employees to generate creative ideas.
The office's reception area is a testament to this vision. Futuristic, linear LED lights create a dynamic, expansive feel, while neon signage of the company's philosophies hangs prominently, encouraging employee engagement. A unique feature of the design is the glass floor, paved with old electrical devices such as phones and computers, all painted in white. This innovative use of electronic waste sends a clear message about the importance of learning from the past to build the future.
The design also incorporates practical elements to meet the needs of the employees. A web-based survey revealed a demand for a more flexible workspace, particularly in terms of internet connection and IT equipment. In response, monitors and screens were installed in all meeting spaces, along with a wireless internet connection, to increase work efficiency and reduce paper use.
Various sizes of conference rooms are arranged in the open area to accommodate the frequent meetings with visitors. Meeting booths and benches are strategically placed near the windows to make the most of the stunning view from the 31st floor. The office, located in Roppongi, Tokyo, was completed in March 2017 and spans a total area of 3239 square meters.
The design was recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The DIP Corporation office design is a shining example of how a workspace can be transformed to reflect a company's philosophy and inspire its employees.
